On May 17th it was Mifune Matsuri in Arashiyama, Kyoto, actually I had seen this festival before on a very rainy May in 2013. That time we just happened to be passing through, and this time we planned on going.
When we arrived we watched some memebers parade over the bridge and down the street to the river, it was really crowded that day and we couldnt see.
We noticed however that they were still allowing rowing boats in the river….hmmm. So off we went around the opposite side of the river to rent a boat.
A lot of people did it too.
We were shocked at how close some people got.
We rowed around for a bit, enjoying being on the water, up river there was a food boat, so we docked alongside it and got some mitsurashi dango.
Then they started to get in the boats…
Our hours boating time was up so we got out and watched from a distance for a short time before going to our wagashi class.
Im not sure we saw anyone famous at the event, we did see someone dressed like a maiko, but she was alone and posing for photos so Im not sure if she was genuine. Kyoto Fan on Facebook always has amazing pictures of the events, and we think you can see J in the background of this one…
Left side, three boats in, in the baseball cap.
