Japan: Shigisan Hiking Nara

A few months ago J bought a local hiking magazine/guide “Let’s enjoy hiking” and is slowly working his way through the recommended hikes.

As part of my New Years health kick I joined him on a hike to Shigisan.

J actually suggested a hike involving a huge suspension bridge, but I’m a little afraid of heights, so I pushed him into this one.

First we walked to Tsuruhashi, then took two trains towards a cable car.

It was pretty scary looking back the way we had come.

At the top we started our hike!

The view was really clear and the ground covered in leaves.

We took our time walking, taking photos and being generally silly.

Finally we reached the main point of the hike Chogosonshi-ji Temple.

It had fantastic views.

This part of the shrine had a lot of tigers!

After the shrine we took a bus back to the cable car and went home, I jumped in the bath as soon as I got in to warm up!

I’m sure we will be doing more hikes out of the magazine in the upcoming months.
