Japan: Awaji Island

In Golden Week as well as visiting Taipei and Wakayama we made a brief visit to Awaji island. The plan was to spend a few days camping and make our way south to Naruto bridge to see the whirlpools.

We took the train to Akashi and then a high speed boat across to Iwaya on Awaji island.

However when we arrived the campsite we’d planned on staying at was closed and the other one was full. Huh. The tourist information lady was helpful, but she couldn’t do anything else for us, just shrugged and said sorry.

We decided to to relax in the sun on the beach for a bit near Iwaya Port.

It was lovely, after a few hours we bought some famous Awaji onions and caught the boat back to Akashi.

We still want to go camping there sometime soon, we will have to plan a bit more carefully next time though!
